#NO MANS SKY CONCEPT ART FULL#
For my part, I think it could-and should-be so much more, especially for the cost of a full retail, AAA title. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm glad No Man's Sky exists, and I'm glad that many players will love it for what it is. Since it's a single-player experience, and one that can be enjoyed at a very leisurely pace, there's no harm in waiting for this to fall into the $20 range which, I'm fairly certain, will happen soon enough. Wait for a significant price drop at this point. Read More: Ten Changes 'No Man's Sky' Needs To Be A Better GameĪs it stands, I give No Man's Sky a "Hold" on my Buy/Sell/Hold scale. Indeed, I believe the game would have fared much better as an indie PC release, with an Early Access stretch on Steam that lasted at least until many more of its promised features were in place. I simply cannot recommend the game at its $60 price-point. In many ways, if No Man's Sky had simply been billed-and priced-like the small-team indie game it is, perhaps my judgment of it would be less harsh. Something with less randomness and more design. But it all simply serves to make me wish this were another game entirely.

There's something spellbinding about the game at times. The game is beautiful, and sound design and music are all top-notch. There is too little risk and too little reward on this journey through space. And frustrating combat mechanics both on the ground and in orbit makes that aspect of the game more a chore than a challenge.

Missing features, like a simple way to map and add waypoints, make the experience more frustrating than satisfying. One lovely planet after another-and they are, at times, incredibly lovely-simply feels like a slog. I don't care enough about reaching the center of the universe. I don't care enough about upgrading my ship or my omni-tool. It might speak to others, but to me No Man's Sky is simply too boring, too meaningless. Still, even if none of these things had been promised, and we were always supposed to get the game we've gotten, I'm not sure it would speak to me.
